Port Vale ruined new Coventry manager Tony Mowbray's first game in charge of the club by coming from behind to win 3-2.
It took just four minutes for Mowbray's team to grab their first goal as skipper Jim O'Brien struck home from long range. But after a slow start, Port Vale forced their way back into the game in the 40th minute when Michael O'Connor's scuffed shot from 25 yards travelled through a sea of bodies for Tom Pope to score from inside the six-yard box. Vale turned the first half on its head in the 45th minute as Mark Marshall broke into the box and, after playing a one-two with O'Connor, he finished from a tight angle. Coventry drew level in the 70th minute as Frank Nouble, despite having his shirt pulled in midfield, powered through the Vale back line before laying off for Sanmi Odelusi to fire past Vale goalkeeper Chris Neal. But O'Connor put the visitors back in front in the 76th minute with a curling free-kick from 20 yards after O'Brien had upended Byron Moore just outside the penalty area.
