Colchester and Millwall had to settle for a point apiece following a keenly-contested 0-0 draw at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
George Moncur went close for Colchester early on with a deflected effort, while at the other end Lee Gregory spurned a good chance for Millwall midway through the first half when he blasted Aiden O'Brien's low cross over from six yards.
Millwall goalkeeper Jordan Archer made a good low save to foil Elliot Lee but Gregory and Chris Taylor both missed decent opportunities for the visitors before half-time.
Archer denied Lee early in the second half and then made a flying save to push Gavin Massey's long-range strike away for a corner.
Gregory could have broken the deadlock for Millwall just after the hour but his effort was smothered by Elliot Parish in the area.
Chris Porter's volley flashed wide for Colchester before Millwall's Taylor came close with 12 minutes remaining when his deflected effort struck a post, as the spoils were shared.
