Brandon Hanlan's first ever league goal rescued Colchester a point in a 1-1 draw with Chesterfield.
The Charlton loanee came off the bench to head in after Drey Wright had flicked on Ryan Jackson's throw with seven minutes remaining, to claim a point for the hosts.
Sammie Szmodics and Nicke Kabamba went close early on, before Chesterfield keeper Tommy Lee denied Szmodics' well-struck volley.
But U's keeper Sam Walker saved Jordan Flores' effort, before Chesterfield went ahead two minutes before half-time through Louis Reed's spectacular 25-yard effort.
Walker pushed away an effort by Diego De Girolamo, who had been sent through by Reed but Colchester wasted a glorious chance to equalise early in the second half when the unmarked Kabamba blasted wide from 10 yards.
The U's came even closer to levelling with 15 minutes remaining when Kane Vincent-Young's strike clattered the crossbar.
But Colchester finally equalised through Hanlan's flicked header and substitute Wright's low shot came back off a post in the closing stages, as dogged Chesterfield held on.
