Colchester recorded an emphatic first win at their new stadium as they beat struggling Carlisle 5-0. The U's coasted to victory at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, condemning the Cumbrians to a seventh defeat in eight league games in the process. Colchester were ahead in the third minute when Mark Yeates beat left-back Darren Campion and after goalkeeper Ben Alnwick had only parried away his cross, David Perkins was on hand to side-foot home. Things got even better for the U's 11 minutes later. John White's pass was flicked on by Kem Izzet and as the Carlisle defence backed off, Yeates curled in a left-foot shot from the edge of the area. The Cumbrians' fragile confidence was dented further just after the half hour when Yeates took full advantage of a defensive mix-up between Darren Campion and Graham Kavanagh to slot past Alnwick. Dean Hammond made it 4-0 in the final minute when he converted from Scott Vernon's run and pass and substitute Akanni-Sunday Wasiu slotted in a stylish fifth inside the area in stoppage-time as the U's ran riot.
