Bean on target for Brentford
Chesterfield were condemned to their third straight defeat after Marcus Bean's first goal of the season earned Brentford a 1-0 win.
Andy Scott's side had taken only seven minutes to go in front when Bean glanced a corner inside the far post.
The visitors were in control for much of the first half but Alan Goodall rattled the Brentford crossbar with a free-kick before Charlie MacDonald came close to a second with a header that hit the woodwork.
Chesterfield lost sub Jamie Lowry only a minute after he came on when he crashed into an advertising board.
The incident seemed to lift the home side who charged forward for the last 30 minutes with Jack Lester firing wide from close range, but they could not find a goal as fans chanted for Lee Richardson's head.
