Luton manager Nathan Jones was thrilled with his side's second-half performance after they won 3-0 at Cambridge.
The game was goalless after an hour but two quickfire goals, one a Josh Coulson own goal and one a tremendous strike by Jack Marriott, turned the match in Luton's favour, with Danny Hylton sealing the result in stoppage time.
"It was possibly the ugliest game I've ever seen, especially the first half," Jones commented afterwards. "It was just horrible, we didn't come out of the blocks, we didn't do the basics right, we didn't win our battles and I felt I needed to make a change to rectify that.
"Once we got to grips we kind of nullified what they had but we could have been one down.
"We had some good chances but they did as well. Once we got to grips and picked the pace up in the second half, what a win away from home. Let's not rest on any negative, the second half was outstanding.
"We are now on points in terms of promotion points. We have a thing (target) of two points a game and we're on it. We've played so much better than that and not won. We've dictated games, dominated games. I just said to them today 'win the game'."
U's boss Shaun Derry was happy with much of his side's performance but rued the errors which cost them the game.
"For 70 minutes we were more than equally a very good football team," he reflected. "But you get judged on certain situations that take place on the football field, and when we had our chances to put the game in our favour we never did that.
"We turned off at crucial times in the game. That enabled the opposition to get their goals and at the end of it you lose 3-0 and it looks horrendous.
"There's a feeling in that room that they're feeling disappointed and they're not playing to the best of their ability but for 70 minutes today I thought we were on top of our game. You've just got to find a way of showing that killer instinct.
"I'm asking for more reliability from them and I'm asking for more when we get in those situations, because that's what's let us down so far this season.
"We're showing a lack of responsibility for our individual jobs. When we conceded that first goal there was a lack of belief that we could perhaps get a goal back.
"If you were to look at the three goals that we've conceded, they're gimme goals from our side. They're not goals that have been earned, they're rank bad decision making from our part."
