Marseille win yet again in Ligue 1
Marseille continued their good run of form in Ligue 1 as they defeated Caen 2-1 at Stade Michel d'Ornano on Friday.
A goal apiece from the Ayew brothers saw Marseille follow their 3-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend with another successful 90 minutes on the pitch.
Jordan Ayew's 52nd minute effort won it for Marseille after Pierre-Alain Frau's penalty had provided an immediate response to Andre Ayew's first-half opener.
After a disappointing start to the season which saw them win just one of their opening 10 Ligue 1 fixtures, Didier Deschamps' men have now won five of their last six.
Quick goals
Marseille took the lead after 21 minutes when Andre Ayew pounced inside the box.
He tucked home the rebound when Caen goalkeeper Alexis Thebaux pushed Morgan Amalfitano's shot on to the bar after great work from the former Lorient man down the right.
But the lead lasted just two minutes as the hosts were awarded a penalty when Marseille custodian Steve Mandanda fouled Livio Nabab in the area. Frau converted into the top corner, despite Mandanda diving the right way.
The two Ayews continued to shine for Marseille. Andre won a free-kick on the left which Lucho Gonzalez took, finding Jordan, whose volley was headed clear by Jerry Vandam.
Marseille had a let-off just before the half-hour mark when Nabab crossed dangerously into the area but the ball went between Frau's legs.
Pulling ahead
OM were ahead seven minutes into the second half when Souleymane Diawara and Andre Ayew led a swift counter-attack which led to the former crossing for Jordan Ayew to volley past Thebaux.
Nabab volleyed wide just after the hour mark but it was Marseille who looked more likely to add to their tally led by the dangerous Amalfitano.
First his shot was turned behind by Thebaux, then two minutes from time he found Mathieu Valbuena, who could only find the side netting with his first-time shot from inside the box.
It leaves Marseille full of confidence heading into their crunch UEFA Champions League game at Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
