Burton celebrated boss Gary Rowett's decision to stay at the Pirelli Stadium with a 2-0 win over York to remain top of the table.
Rowett, who turned down the Blackpool job on Tuesday, saw second half goals from Lucas Akins and John Mousinho extend Burton's unbeaten start - while sentencing the Minstermen to their first defeat. Chances came at both ends in a lively opening 15 minutes, with Alex MacDonald and Adam Gurk both heading too high for the hosts while Burton goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin had to make an improvised save to keep out Luke Summerfield's firm shot. Burton could have taken the lead in the 28th minute but Mousinho's lob was headed off the line by Keith Lowe after a risky punch out by visiting keeper Michael Ingham. Akins broke York's resistance in the 55th minute after the winger had missed a chance straight after the break. This time he made no mistake from 12 yards after Lowe had bravely blocked McGurk's shot. The visitors were lucky not to go further behind when McGurk rattled their crossbar from the edge of the area in the 69th minute, but Mousinho sealed their fate 10 minutes later when he pounced on a loose ball to power home a 25-yard shot.
