Chesterfield clinched promotion back to League One after a two-year absence with a 2-0 victory at Burton.
Jubilant fans swarmed onto the Pirelli Stadium pitch at the end to salute their heroes after a Jay O'Shea double eased the Spireites to victory. Now Paul Cook's men can set their sights on ending the campaign as champions after moving to the top of the table on goal difference. Chesterfield dominated the opening period despite twice having to reorganise because of injuries to defender Liam Cooper and midfield schemer Danny Kearns. Burton keeper Dean Lyness had to palm away Eoin Doyle's angled shot but needed the crossbar to come to his rescue in the 40th minute after Sam Hird got a firm header to a Gary Roberts corner kick. The Spireites made the breakthrough in the 52nd minute after a mistake by Burton's Robbie Weir presented substitute Ritchie Humphreys with the chance to set up O'Shea for a low shot into the bottom corner of the net. Roberts went close to increasing the visitors' lead with dipping 25-yard free kick. Victory for Paul Cook's men was sealed in the 79th minute when O'Shea headed in from close range after Doyle's cross had been parried by Lyness.
