Brentford 0-1 Blackburn Rovers: Shane Duffy snatches late winner

Ten-man Blackburn recorded their first Sky Bet Championship away win in nine games with a smash-and-grab 1-0 victory at Brentford.

Shane Duffy smashed home the winner four minutes to go ensuring Rovers secured their first success on the road since December.

It looked like their barren away run was set to continue when Scotland international Grant Hanley saw red for a second yellow card just before the hour mark.

He picked up his first before the break for a lunge on Everton loanee Leandro Rodriguez and the second for a deliberate handball to deny Alan Judge's whipped cross.

But Paul Lambert's side dug in and repelled everything the Londoners could throw at them before going on to claim all three points.

The hosts pressed forward on boss Dean Smith's birthday but without any real conviction, Alan McCormack slicing well wide after 17 minutes before Yoann Barbet tested Rovers goalkeeper Jason Steele with a superb free-kick.

His dipping, curling effort on 27 minutes cleared the wall but found Steele at full stretch to tip wide.

At the other end David Button had to be at his best with a reflex save to deny Hope Akpan's far post header just under the bar.

Brentford's hopes were boosted when Hanley was dismissed following his second booking after 57 minutes and McCormack almost immediately capitalised, but he fired wide when well placed.

As Brentford grew more desperate they pumped long balls into the box, while Blackburn defender Ben Marshall survived a penalty scare when the ball bounced up suddenly to hit his hand.

But out of nowhere, Blackburn took an 86th-minute lead. Substitute Tony Watt pounced on a half clearance to tee up Duffy, who lashed the ball into the roof of the net to send the away fans into raptures.

Duffy's strike saw the Bees - who have now lost 10 of the last 13 games - pile forward but without any real conviction.

Judge saw an injury-time effort tipped wide by Steele before centre-back Harlee Dean headed wide with the final kick of the game.

The Bees now find themselves just six points off the drop zone while Rovers eased any fears of being dragged into the dogfight as they moved up to 14th in the standings.
