Ashley Westwood's early strike proved the only goal of the game as Northampton beat Aldershot 1-0 at the Recreation Ground.
The 34-year-old, who left Kettering in January and spent a brief spell with Crewe, rejoined his former club earlier this month and headed home after just two minutes on his first start of the season. Shots' Michael Rankine powered a header wide and Aaron Brown missed two good chances as Northampton held on for their first League One victory of the season. Aldershot were indebted to Jamie Young as he saved from Jake Robinson, with the keeper turning away the rebound with the former Shrewsbury man lurking. The second half saw chances few and far between, until Shots substitute Luke Guttridge hit the angle of post and bar from inside the penalty area and Brown first saw his free header sail wide, and then had his acrobatic effort brilliant turned onto the post by Sam Walker.
