The Mercedes driver recorded the 53rd pole position of his increasingly-impressive F1 career at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as he narrowly defeated team-mate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel.
But the Englishman admitted afterwards that he wasn't happy with the lap and it should have been quicker.
