Monday 19 February 2018 15:13, UK
Michael van Gerwen beat James Wade 6-4 on Saturday to win the first Players Championship title of the year.
The world No 1 claimed the 101st PDC title of his career and the £10,000 prize, averaging 103.8 in the final.
"I didn't play my best game today," said Van Gerwen. "The first two rounds were poor - I won both 6-0 but that doesn't mean anything.
"For the rest of the day I played okay. I am really glad I won but I did miss too many doubles in the final. It's a long day and I am only human."
Peter Wright fell in the second round while Adrian Lewis, Raymond van Barneveld and Gary Anderson lost in the third round. Premier League star Gerwyn Price impressed with a semi-final run.
