Edmonds stopped in the seventh

St Helens bantamweight Gary Davies claimed the vacant British title with a seventh-round stoppage of Matthew Edmonds in Bethnal Green on Friday night. The 26-year-old dominated from the outset at York Hall and was well on top by halfway, the end coming when referee Dave Parris stopped the contest with Edmonds having hit the canvas for a third time. Davies paid tribute to his opponent, admitting the fight was more difficult than it looked. "He's strong, I had to dig in deep and that was some fight," Davies told Sky Sports. "Hats off to Edmonds, he's a champion. "I'll be getting married now and this will pay for the wedding, I'm absolutely over the moon. "What a team I've got, I'm going to keep going now."
