Golovkin vs Brook: Martin J Ward confident of claiming British title
Wednesday 7 September 2016 13:13, UK
There may be three world title fights on the Gennady Golovkin v Kell Brook card but Martin J Ward plans to upstage them all.
The unbeaten 25-year-old (14-0-2-KO7) faces the dangerous Andy Townend (16-3-KO11) for the vacant British super-featherweight crown and believes it could trump Charlie Edwards v John Riel Casimero, Lee Haskins v Stuart Hall and the main event itself.
Ward told Sky Sports: "It's a great event to be a part of and I'm going to try and steal the show by putting on a great performance on Saturday night. I want to take home that British title for my family.
"I'm training so, so hard. Ever since I signed professional with Tony Sims, the first aim was getting the British title. It's here on Saturday night and I can't wait. I'm buzzing.
"I'm in for a tough fight but he's in for a tougher fight. Little does he know what's coming towards him. We've got a good game plan and I'm ready more than ever now.

"I'm going to put on a clinical performance and then I'm looking forward to watching Kell Brook going at it against the pound-for-pound best."
Townend is equally confident, adding: "I'm not one for watching videos. I like to go out and do my own thing. My coach has been watching and I'm going out with a plan. We've got a plan and a plan B as well."
Townend won the English title in his last fight; dispatching Craig Poxton with a devastating first-round knockout.
Watch Ward v Townend on Gennady Golovkin v Kell Brook, live on Sky Sports Box Office from The O2, on September 10. Book the event via your Sky remote or online here.
