Clayton Blackmore believes a draw against Chelsea will be enough to secure Manchester United a record 19th league title.
Sir Alex Ferguson's men saw their lead cut to just three points at the weekend as they went down to Arsenal after the Blues had scraped a win over Tottenham.
The top two go head-to-head in a
Super Sunday game at Old Trafford this week, which the United boss immediately labelled a "must-win" game.
But Blackmore, who spent 12 years at the club, reckons a point will be enough to surpass Liverpool's 18 title wins.
"We're in a great position," he told
Sky Sports News HD.
"They've got to come to Old Trafford and beat us; if we draw that's a great result. We're in good form, we didn't play that great on Sunday, but I'm sure we'll be ok at the weekend.
"There's a couple of tough games coming up. We've got Blackburn away which is a tough game, they've still got to go to Everton at the end of the season and then we've got Blackpool."
If United win it will leave them six points clear of Chelsea with two games to go and a superior goal difference.
A positive result at The Emirates on Sunday would have brought any celebrations forward at least a week and Blackmore says United should have had a penalty - and a point - against Arsenal.
Television replays showed Gael Clichy raking Michael Owen's calf to send him sprawling in the box as United pressed for an equaliser.
Deliberate
"If you look at the Vidic one that could've been a penalty but the referee and linesman have got to give decisions on what they see - and the Michael Owen one's a much easier one," he said.
"If you watch the Vidic one, even on telly, it's very difficult to see at first until you slow it down.
"I think it was deliberate. But the problem is the linesman and referee can only see certain things and if you can't see it, you can't give it. We need to bring in TV evidence to help the referees, who are always going to get things wrong.
"Arsenal are a very good team on their day, their movement was very good for the goal, they had a lot of people in the box.
"We made our own chances and towards the end should've had a penalty - and a draw would've been a massive result for us."
