Bolton fighter determined to win third title in 10st division

Amir Khan is delighted to have the opportunity to win the WBC belt when he fights light-welterweight champion Danny Garcia in Las Vegas. The Briton hopes to rebound from December's controversial defeat by Lamont Peterson - and the disappointment of the American's failed drug test scuppering their rematch - by winning his third different belt in the 10 stone division. Khan is also hoping his old WBA title will be on the line, amid unconfirmed reports that the governing body will strip Peterson and declare it vacant. "As far as I know I'm going to be fighting for the WBA title as well as the WBC," said Khan, who will step into the ring in the early hours of Sunday morning. "The WBC belt is the one Danny Garcia has and I've read in a few places and heard from Richard Schaefer, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions that I'll be fighting for the WBA as well. "So at the moment I believe it's those two titles that I'm fighting for. "If you look over history, all the top, top fighters have held the WBC title. The likes of Erik Morales in his peak, Marco Antonio Barrera, Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather and English guys like Naseem Hamed and Lennox Lewis have all held it. "It's one of those titles you want. The colour and the look of it is prestigious and recognisable too.

Brilliant

"So I think it's a good time to clean up the division and move up to welterweight because we've kind of won everything apart from the WBO, which Timothy Bradley wouldn't fight me for when he had it. "So to have the chance to have won three of the big titles means it is really a big occasion for me. "It would be brilliant to get all four at once and be officially undisputed champion. But I've tried so many times and it just didn't happen. "We offered the fight to Bradley twice when I had the WBA and IBF and he had the WBO and WBC but he turned it down. "He had to vacate and now Garcia holds one of them after he beat Morales for the WBC. "The titles are all over the place so now I just want to fight Garcia and hopefully win the two titles." Khan also lost his IBF title to Peterson in December, and that governing body has yet to make a ruling on the issue. "I don't know what's going to happen to the IBF," Khan admitted. "They should hand it back to me because of what happened with Peterson but like I said, the titles are all over the place. "I have the chance to have held three of the four if I win the WBC this weekend."
