Great Dane claims vacant WBA Super-Middleweight belt
Mikkel Kessler became a world champion again thanks to a 12th round knock-out of Dimitri Sartison.
The Dane claimed the vacant WBA super-middleweight title in front of a roaring home crowd at Brondby Hall on the outskirts of Copenhagen.
The previously unbeaten Sartison had to be stretchered out of the ring following the bout, which Kessler had dominated from the off.
Kessler won the WBA title in November 2004 by stopping Manny Siaca of Puerto Rico and added the WBC super middleweight crown two years later when he knocked out Markus Beyer of Germany.
This meant he was the first Danish boxer to hold titles from two major sanctioning bodies but he then lost both to Joe Calzaghe.
The Welsh fighter outpointed him in November last year in Cardiff, ending his perfect record as a professional.
