Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr agreed at 164.5lbs on Cinco de Mayo weekend

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez will weigh in 9.5lbs heavier than ever before after confirming his next fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The May 6 bout between the two Mexicans – during the national holiday weekend of Cinco de Mayo – has been contracted for 164.5lbs, giving Alvarez the significant opportunity to box above the middleweight limit (160lbs) for the first time.
Alvarez (48-1-1) is a former WBC middleweight champion yet courted controversy because his two victories in that division, against Miguel Cotto and Amir Khan, were contested at catch-weights beneath the official limit.
He then vacated his belt and became the WBO light-middleweight champion (154lbs) by beating Liam Smith, yet a blockbuster clash against middleweight king Gennady Golovkin could still be on the cards after the Mexican’s dramatic rise in weight was confirmed for his next fight.
Chavez (50-2-1, 32 KOs), for his part, has boxed his last five fights above 167.5lbs so faces a notable cut in weight. He has missed weight several times before in his veteran career.
There is no confirmed location for Alvarez vs Chavez yet.
