Olympic boxing sensation Joshua Buatsi has lifted the lid on an inspiring meeting with former world champion Floyd Mayweather.

The light-heavyweight from London has advanced to the semi-finals in Rio having brutally stopped his first two opponents and revealed he has earned a fan in five-weight king Mayweather.

In an interview reported on ESPN, the 23-year-old Buatsi said of meeting the American: "He said to me he had heard about me before I got here and that I was a great fighter, a future world champion.

"It was good to hear that from someone like Mayweather, who I think is the greatest boxer of our generation.
