Floyd Mayweather has thrown his support behind Serena Williams as she attempts to complete the calendar Grand Slam at the US Open.
The two American stars have reached crucial stages in their careers as the unbeaten Mayweather is preparing for his apparent farewell fight against Andre Berto on September 12, while Williams is trying to become the first player since 1998 to hold all four major titles in a single year.
Mayweather admits he is keen to see the 21-time major champion triumph again at Flushing Meadows after previously securing silverware at the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.
"I'm very pleased with Serena Williams," said the multi-weight world champion. "They say records are made to be broken.
"I'm just very proud of her and what she's done during her career. She's done some amazing things in her career. It's just marvellous what she did.
"I'm behind her 100%. If she stays focused she can continue to break records."
The 38-year-old Mayweather has comfortably defeated younger challengers, while Williams, hours away from a fourth round clash with Madison Keys, continues to dominate the women's game at the age of 33.
Both champions share similar physical attributes and dedication to the sport, according to Mayweather.
"Genetics. I think that the older you get, the harder you have to work," said 'Money' when asked to explain their success. "That's what I've done. The older I get, the harder I work."
