Golovkin vs Brook: The Panel give Kell Brook credit despite the defeat to Gennady Golovkin

Kell Brook catches Gennady Golovkin

Kell Brook suffered defeat for the first time but The Panel made it clear that he emerged from the five-round war with Gennady Golovkin with immense credit.

The 'Special One' might well have fractured his eye socket but former gym mate Johnny Nelson, former world champions Carl Froch and Paulie Malignaggi and a man who also suffered at the hands of 'Triple G', Matthew Macklin, agreed the British star won as much as he lost.

And we have pulled together some tweets praising Brook too, including one from Amir Khan...

Johnny Nelson says Kell Brook's trainer Dominic Ingle deserves credit for making the brave decision to stop the fight in the fifth round

Kell impressed me with his courage. His cool was unbelievable. You have got to give him credit and Dominic Ingle credit. It was a brave decision to throw in the towel. Just before he threw the towel in Kell's hands were down. It was a hard decision to accept from the fans but the right one. Nobody expected Kell to get past three rounds, his eye socket went, end of story. It is nothing to do with weight. Golovkin is an amazing puncher, he didn't bully Kell around the ring, we just know he's an amazing puncher. If that was any other middleweight in the world what would have happened? You could see Kell getting in the ring with anyone like Liam Smith or Canelo Alvarez, this kid could give them a run for their money if not beat them.

The only reason Gennady Golovkin came through was the size and natural weight advantage. Kell Brook showed warrior instincts in there to stay in and carry on. He didn't go down and get knocked out. He is leaving here with his head held high. His reputation is intact. He is a world class welterweight and may be a world class light middleweight but he got found out tonight and showed that he is not a middleweight.

Even on the world stage, people will credit Kell Brook for this fight more than any of his other fights even with his wins and that's a shame. I have been singing his praises for a long time, I hope they see this performance in America and give him credit. This is a worldwide stage here. I am curious about that eye socket, if he has fractured it.

Matthew Macklin

Matthew Macklin felt Kell Brook had the perfect game plan to beat Golovkin and was making Triple G look ordinary before the stoppage

It was a very compassionate decision. Dominic Ingle has had him from a young kid. He cares for his fighters. Kell boxed absolutely brilliantly, the way he was frustrating him, giving him angles, on the ropes he was like a bar of soap. At times he was making Golovkin look clumsy. It's a daunting task and he had a bad injury to deal with. As the fight was going on Golovkin was starting to land clearly, he boxed above and beyond. I think going two weight divisions took the toll with the bigger man coming out on top.

Great effort by Kell, done himself proud. Dom Ingle should never have been booed. I thought GGG was more impressive than what people r sayin

@LiamBeefySmith
Thought brook was very good, traded parts and boxed in parts, your always going to hit golovkin, it's hurting him that's the problem #Beast

From a fans point disappointing finish. But what effort from Kell Brook he's gave GGG a fight no other middleweight has. Well done Kell
