Local Hull rivals Luke Campbell and Tommy Coyle are both in action on this weekend's Fight Night, so who better to assess their chances than Jamie Moore...?
Jamie said: I would've fought anyone in the world! It is just an inbuilt thing with most boxers; they want to test themselves against the best and I'd have loved to have gone in there with him. Katsidis and me would've been an absolute humdinger, that's for sure. We were different weights but my strength was being an aggressive pressure fighter and we know he likes to fight in much the same way. It would've been great - while it lasted. You thrive off those occasions and Tommy is a classic example because he is a big fan of Katsidis, but you have to shut that emotion out and do the job. More often than not those sorts of fights turn out to be great. Look at me and Matt Macklin, me and Ryan Rhodes...
Jamie says: It is inevitable! Look, I think we all know it's going to happen but as the trainer my job is to make Tommy aware of certain things that Katsidis is going to do. We have all seen loads of Katsidis fights so I have been able to read his body language, the little differences; I've basically gone through the map of his boxing style and the way he likes to do it. It does change with age but usually you can tell what a boxer is about to do; it is up to me to notice the natural things and come up with a plan to counter him. I think we've done that and when they inevitably stand there and fight, Tommy will be able to use the little gaps and weaknesses that Katsidis has - the ones that have made him lose before. Everyone things boxing technique is what happens at long range and that when you get up close, you just have a scrap. That couldn't be any further from the truth. It's a different game altogether.
Jamie says: Every fighter performs better against better opponents and Daniele Brizuela proved he's a decent fighter with a big heart when he fought Tommy. Style-wise I can't see Brizuela and Campbell gelling as well as he did with Tommy, but I do think his style will suit Luke. Luke will keep it long and use his atttributes and I do think Brizuela will struggle to get close to him. I can actually see Campbell totally out-boxing him for the first three or four rounds and then he might well start causing problems. He could find gaps Luke leaves and really give him some trouble but I don't think for a minute Luke won't win. He will dominate but will have to come through those awkward little problems, which will stand him in good stead. I think we will see just how good he is.
Jamie says: That was a ridiculously brave fight and you are not sure you can come through something like that until you actually do. I know Tommy did and I am sure Brizeula did too. He was a super-feather coming up really. A career super-featherweight anyway. He showed heart and bravery but to be honest Tommy didn't do the weight properly and that helped Brizuela, no doubt. But I do think the fight was stopped too early and funnily enough yesterday, me and Tommy sat down and had a coffee with him and his trainer and I said he should've been given the benefit of the doubt. I think Brizuela is going to be a great test for Campbell.
Jamie says: Maybe not in their next fights, but it's looking like the summer. Luke and Tommy are mates and have been for years but sometimes - as I did - you just have to bite the bullet and do the best for the sport. On top of that these two both want to do it for the people of Hull. They want to see who is top dog and they will fill a stadium, no doubt about that. We're looking at a summer, open-air fight at the KC Stadium. We don't need a title either for this. It's just about bragging rights.
