Newcastle lost a thrilling final to Leicester in Birmingham last week, but have the slight advantage over the Riders in the table - having played a game more - after Joe Chapman poured in 41 points to inspire a comfortable win.
David Watts scored 21 points as the Manchester Giants saw off the Surrey Heat 85-68 to edge clear of the foot of the table.
Friday's game between the Worcester Wolves and London Lions was postponed due to bad weather.
