Scunthorpe climb back into play-off places

Scunthorpe United's first win in six games lifted them back into the play-off positions thanks to a 2-1 home victory over Stockport County. All the goals came in the opening 21 minutes, with the home side racing into a 2-0 lead. Leading marksman Gary Hooper set up the first for winger Kevan Hurst, who tapped home from close range in the sixth minute for his first league goal of the season. Eight minutes later it was Hooper himself who struck with his 25th goal of the campaign, rifling a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams. Fellow promotion hopefuls Stockport reduced the arrears in the 21st minute when defender Michael Raynes headed home a free-kick from Michael Rose. Stockport seldom threatened an equaliser and it was Hooper who missed a chance for his second goal of the game in stoppage time when he was denied by Fon Williams.
