Benyon nets hat-trick to send Gulls through to FA Cup third round

Elliot Benyon grabbed a hat-trick as Torquay progressed into third round of the FA Cup with a 4-0 victory over Stockport. The Devon outfit were ruthless as they made the most of a third trip north for the twice-postponed tie played at Macclesfield's Moss Rose ground. The League Two side stormed into the lead after just two minutes against their League One opponents. Stockport goalkeeper Owain fon Williams saw his mishit clearance strike defender Johnny Mullins then fall invitingly into the path of Benyon who could not miss from 10 yards. The second goal in the 28th minute was even more of a calamity as this time a poor clearance hit Scott Rendell's knee before rebounding straight back into an unguarded net. It was 3-0 five minutes later when Jake Thomson fired in a low cross from the left and Benyon met it superbly as he guided the ball home from close range. Benyon then slid home his third goal with 12 minutes left after latching onto Rendell's flick to set up a home clash with Brighton in the next round.
