David Wagner blamed a combination of wasteful finishing and poor refereeing decisions for his side's 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Huddersfield started the game on the front foot and had a few presentable chances to score before Callum Wilson gave the home side the lead with a thumping header after 26 minutes.
He added his second five minutes later with a well-taken volley, but Huddersfield were disappointed with both goals, as they felt Florent Hadergjonaj had been fouled in the build-up to the first and Wilson was offside for the second.
A Simon Francis red card seemed to swing the momentum back in Huddersfield's favour but, despite dominating the second half, they conceded two more goals to Harry Arter and Wilson late on.
"I think we played a very good first half. We created a lot of opportunities and defended well but we have to blame ourselves for not being clinical enough," Wagner said.
"Then we were 2-0 down at half-time after two set plays and two referee decisions that were not correct. The first one was a harsh tackle and a clear foul and the second was offside.
"Second half we tried everything with one man more but we didn't create enough and we conceded two counter-attack goals.
"The game completely changed with the two goals and usually they would not count. We didn't take our chance but the referee got two decisions wrong."
