Russ Wilcox's Scunthorpe extended their record League Two unbeaten run to 25 matches with a 1-0 win at basement side Torquay.
Scunthorpe went ahead from a 31st minute penalty. Torquay central defender Kystian Pearce fouled Matthew Sparrow as he struggled to control Paul Hayes' cross from the left 10 yards out. Sam Winnall feigned and then tucked away his 31st minute spot kick with aplomb, despite home goalkeeper Martin Rice guessing and diving the right way. Torquay right back Dale Tonge had the opportunity to restore parity when Torquay were awarded a 44th minute penalty, following a foul on Pearce following a Courtney Cameron corner. Scunthorpe keeper Sam Slocombe also guessed and dived the right way, to his left, to save Tonge's side foot spot-kick. Slocombe proved Scunthorpe's saviour. In the opening minute he palm over Karl Hawley's powerful goal-bound header from Cameron's inswinging corner. Slocombe went full stretch up into the top corner to flap over substitute Jayden Stockley's goal-bound 74th minute free-kick from 20 yards. Stockley was sent off in stoppage time for a foul on central defender David Mirfin.Winnall lengthens Iron run
