Rovers ease relegation fears

Tranmere Rovers boosted their survival hopes with a 2-0 home victory over fellow strugglers Dagenham & Redbridge.

Enoch Showunmi had an early goal ruled out for offside but there was no denying the home striker in the 12th minute when he headed in from an Aaron Cresswell cross. As Tranmere maintained the pressure Daggers goalkeeper Tony Roberts made a crucial blocking save at the feet of Joss Labadie and Showunmi headed just over. But Rovers doubled their lead in the 34th minute as Ian Goodison stole in at the far post to head home from a Labadie free-kick. The visitors produced their best spell after half-time but their first effort on goal by substitute Darren Currie was palmed away by keeper Tony Warner in the 54th minute. Roberts made an excellent fingertip save from Adam McGurk as Tranmere looked for a third goal. While at the other end Warner made a great stop from a powerful strike by Jon Nurse with 10 minutes remaining as Rovers held on for three precious points.
