Wall strike downs Stevenage

Substitute Alex Wall's composed finish saw Luton beat local rivals Stevenage 2-1 and squeeze into the play-off places in the process.

Wall, who had come on for Mark Cullen seconds earlier, found himself unmarked at the edge of the area and curled the ball into Chris Day's bottom corner in the 83rd minute to win the game for the Hatters. Luke Wilkinson headed Luton into an early lead after a free-kick from former Boro man Andy Drury found him in the area. The centre back climbed above Boro's defence to reach the ball and score his second in as many games. Tom Pett undid Wilkinson's opener with a close-range 33rd-minute strike following a decent team move. Charlie Lee's lofted pass found Chris Whelpdale deep in the area and the former Gillingham man headed across goal to tee-up Pett. Luton however had far more opportunities to score. Wilkinson had an effort saved by Day in the 15th minute and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu fired wide from close range in the eighth minute. Jim Stevenson had a header cleared off the line by Jon Ashton moments before Wall's winner.
