Leeds have appointed Victor Orta as director of football.

Orta left Middlesbrough, where he headed-up recruitment on behalf of Aitor Karanka, last week and has taken up a similar role at the managerless Yorkshire club.

Leeds are looking for a new boss after Garry Monk resigned last week, while Karanka is a free agent after leaving Boro prior to their relegation earlier this year.

Orta said: "I am excited by the opportunity to become director of football at a great club like Leeds.

"Once I had met with Andrea Radrizzani and spoke to him about his plans to take the club forward, I knew that this was the right move for me and I am confident that we can achieve great things in the coming years."

Chairman Radrizzani added: "I am delighted to welcome Victor to Elland Road. I have been impressed by his knowledge of the game, his extensive scouting network and his desire to help us achieve our objective of getting Leeds back to the Premier League."

At Boro, Orta signed the likes of Alvaro Negredo, Victor Valdes, Adama Traore and Jordan Rhodes.

Orta was technical director at Valencia before leaving in 2013 to join Zenit Saint Petersburg.

Orta's appointment comes just days after the club announced Angus Kinnear as the club's new managing director.
