Quique Sanchez Flores felt his Watford side deserved more after two late Manchester City goals condemned the Hornets to defeat on Saturday.

Watford appeared on course for victory on Saturday Night Football after Ben Watson forced Aleksandar Kolarov to turn the ball beyond Joe Hart midway through the second half at Vicarage Road.

But Watford's bright, and at times dominant, display counted for nothing as Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero struck two minutes and 36 seconds apart to snatch the points.

"It is very to hard accept what happened today in the match," Flores told Sky Sports.

"We played fantastic, we played really well, we had great attempts, we had the control and in the last moments we lost the match. We conceded some space to Manchester City, and some space for Manchester City is enough.

"It is impossible to play better than we did today. If we think about the level of the opponent, it is impossible to do more.

Quique Sanchez Flores says defeat against Manchester City is hard to take

"We played with football, we contained Manchester City's strikers, we created more attempts than the opponent, we controlled the ball and we had chances until the last moment so it's difficult to accept this."

Saturday's result saw Watford slip to back-to-back Premier League defeats for the first time since November.

It means Watford's last three defeats - against Manchester United, Tottenham and City - have all featured late goals for the opposition, and Flores, while branding this occurrence as unlucky, has urged his side to learn from the manner of their losses.

Joe Hart claims that the 2-1 win at Watford will prove to be a big moment

"We played really well against Manchester City and we the opportunity to win but that is football, we need to accept it and learn the lessons for the future," he added. "It is very hard, though, because my players deserved more.

"When we play against massive teams like Tottenham, United and City, I have the feeling that we are completely unlucky.

"We need to accept that this is our destiny today, for our season at the moment. We have the opportunity to change in the future.

"Of course, the most important thing now is to move as soon as possible because it's very hard to accept that we didn't get any points.

"We need to eliminate this match, think about what we did well and to think about the next game."
