Arsenal captain explains true meaning of post-match statement

Cesc Fabregas has explained the post-match comment that caused a stir following Arsenal's 3-0 win at Manchester City. The hosts were reduced to 10 men after just five minutes as Dedryck Boyata was sent off for bringing down Marouane Chamakh when the Gunners striker was through on goal. City succumbed to goals midway through each half by Samir Nasri and Alex Song before substitute Nicklas Bendtner claimed a late third. Fabregas told Sky Sports after the game that "even if they were 15 and we were 11, we would still go and win", generating a host of headlines in Monday's newspapers.

Misunderstanding

But the Arsenal captain has moved to clarify his statement, claiming the true meaning of his words was deliberately misinterpreted. In a post on his official Twitter account, he wrote: "Once again you see that people read things and understand things the way that will work better for them. "I never said we would beat City with 15 men, I said that even if they were 15 players, we'd have to still try to go for the victory as usual."
