Premier League: Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert happy with West Ham draw

Paul Lambert was pleased to have earned a point against an in-form West Ham side

Paul Lambert was pleased his Aston Villa side ended a run of six consecutive Premier League defeats with a hard-earned goalless draw at West Ham.

Villa arrested their slide as they held out manfully against an in-form Hammers side who had recorded four wins from six matches heading into the contest at Upton Park.

We had one or two chances ourselves to get a goal, but it was a big point here because West Ham have been going really well.

Goalkeeper Brad Guzan produced a string of fine saves to earn a point leaving Villa two points above the relegation zone.

"Up until the final few minutes or so, I thought we were pretty comfortable," Lambert told Sky Sports. "We had one or two chances ourselves to get a goal, but it was a big point here because West Ham have been going really well.

"We spoke about it all week, having to get a foothold in the game and defend really strongly and (Brad) Guzan came out to claim crosses and give us as hand.

"We're not the biggest side and West Ham are a really big side, but all credit to the team.

"We defended resolutely, played when we had it. Gabby (Agbonlahor) had a chance to put us one up and then I think (Ashley) Westwood put a volley over the crossbar, so we could have nicked one.

"But all credit to them. They took a lot of flak but at the end of the day I thought we deserved it (a point)."
