Aston Villa manager Remi Garde praised his side's solidarity as they gained a "big point" in the 1-1 draw at Southampton.
Villa, bottom of the Premier League, are still without a win since the opening day of the season, but earned a credible draw at St Mary's despite the hosts' dominance.
And Garde, who replaced the sacked Tim Sherwood at the start of November, says the players showed far more togetherness than the previous two games, which saw them lose 4-0 at Everton and 3-2 at home to Watford.
The Frenchman told Sky Sports: "It's a big point. We suffered a lot, as you saw, Southampton created many chances and we were under pressure for time.
"We showed a very good spirit, I'm very happy about that, and we deserved the point.
"The solidarity between the players, the desire to fight not to concede. We didn't have the same attitude at Everton or at home to Watford.
"We knew we would be under pressure, they have pace up front and are strong in midfield. We gave the answer, it was very good in terms of spirit."
Villa have just six points from 15 Premier League games, despite spending £54m in the summer on 11 senior signings.
But Garde, still without a win as Villa boss, says the spirit of the side will get them further than talent as they look to hold onto their ever-present Premier League status.
"First of all I prefer to have this solidarity in every game rather than much more talent," he added.
"For me solidarity is the key when you are fighting not to be relegated. If we show again this performance in terms of spirit, we will get more points.
"Of course the talent at Villa is not the same as City or Arsenal, but these teams sometimes lose games, and that shows that talent is one thing, but you need to have spirit."
