Steven Gerrard produced an eye-catching display as the Liverpool Legends squeezed past their counterparts from Real Madrid in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
Gerrard, who retired last year and is now working as a coach at Liverpool's Academy, created goals in each half for former strikers Michael Owen and John Aldridge, as well as winning a penalty that Robbie Fowler converted.
However, the loudest applause of all at a sold-out Anfield was reserved for when the former captain got his name on the scoresheet with a well-taken goal in front of the Kop, a strike that turned out to be the winner.
Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos and Clarence Seedorf featured for a star-studded Real Madrid side, but despite a late fightback that saw three goals in the final 10 minutes, Gerrard's 78th-minute half-volley proved decisive.
