Ramires - I needed time

Brazilian happy with adjustment period

Ramires does not think it is a surprise that it took him a while to settle into life at Chelsea following his move from Benfica. The Brazilian midfielder joined the Blues last summer but initially struggled to show his best form, leading some to doubt whether he could succeed in the Premier League. However, Ramires has seen his hard work rewarded over the past few weeks with a series of impressive performances, and he insists he was never too worried. The 23-year-old says he took inspiration from compatriot Lucas, who was much-maligned during his early days at Liverpool but has started to gain respect this season. "We knew it would take time to adapt when I arrived," Ramires said in the Daily Mail. "That was no surprise. No Brazilian escapes it when he comes to England. "Lucas has also lived through what I am experiencing and now his work is being recognised. "I think this period went even quicker for me."

Luiz link-up

One Brazilian to have adapted quickly to English football is David Luiz, who has earned rave reviews for his Chelsea displays since arriving in January. Ramires knows Luiz from his time at Benfica, as well as being team-mates at international level. "We shared great moments in Portugal and I am sure there will be several more here in England," said the midfielder. "And who knows if we will be together for a long time with the national team too."
