Mitchell Santner out for New Zealand-England Test series with knee injury

By PA Sport

New Zealand all-rounder Mitchell Santner has been ruled out of the Test series against England with a knee injury.

Santner was a notable performer with the bat down the order in the recently-concluded one-day international series between the teams, amassing 216 runs including a couple of key fifties.

The 26-year-old was a conspicuous absentee from the Black Caps' 12-man squad, announced on their official website, to face England for the Test matches at Auckland and Christchurch.

Middle-order batsman Ross Taylor has been included after missing the ODI decider - which England won to clinch a 3-2 series victory - with a quadriceps injury.

Wicketkeeper BJ Watling returns after missing the two-Test series against West Indies at the back end of last year.

The first Test starts on March 22 at Eden Park and will be a day-night affair while the second and final match begins on March 30 at Hagley Oval.
