Kane earns 11 eliminations (2001)

Kane entered the bout at No 6 and during his near 54-minute stay accounted for, in order, Grand Master Sexay, Steve Blackman, Al Snow, Raven, Perry Saturn, The Honky Tonk Man - after hitting the legend with his guitar - Tazz, Crash Holly, Albert, Scotty 2 Hotty - with the help of his half-brother The Undertaker - and The Rock.

Kane also had a hand in the elimination of comedian Drew Carey, in so much that Carey was so scared of him that he left of his own accord! The Demon came second in the match after Stone Cold Steve Austin clobbered him with a Stunner and ample chair shots to win, while his 11 eliminations stood as a record until Roman Reigns downed 12 wrestlers in the 2014 Rumble.

Having been angered at Stone Cold winning the previous two Rumbles, Mr McMahon "randomly" placed The Texas Rattlesnake as the No 1 entrant, but with Commissioner Shawn Michaels putting McMahon in at No 2, the rivals were forced to lock horns. McMahon soon fled backstage and Austin followed him, earning the latter a beat-down from The Corporation.

McMahon would roll in and out of the ring frequently from that point but the match came down to him and Austin, who had recovered from his attack and driven an ambulance into the arena. Stone Cold hit McMahon with a chair and a Stunner, but The Rock then taunted Austin and McMahon profited from the distraction to eliminate his great rival.

Phoenix stars in man's world (2010)

Three women have competed in the Royal Rumble Match. The late Chyna did so in 1999 and 2000, eliminating Mark Henry in her first appearance and Chris Jericho in her second, while the powerhouse Kharma dispatched Hunico in 2012. However, three-time Women's Champion and one-time Divas Champion Beth Phoenix arguably made the biggest female impact.

Entering at No 6, The Glamazon made The Great Khali's day by smooching him on the lips, only to ruin it seconds later by pulling him over the top rope. Phoenix threatened another elimination when she nailed CM Punk with a meaty clothesline but The Second City Saint recovered to remove her with a Go To Sleep in a Rumble won by Edge, a man Phoenix is now married to.

Two Rumble winners (1994)

Bret Hart and Lex Luger were declared co-winners of the 1994 Rumble in Rhode Island after simultaneously eliminating each other at the death. Hart and Luger had joined forces to remove Genichiro Tenryu, before Hart accounting for Fatu and Luger knocking out Shawn Michaels left the Excellence of Execution and The Narcissist as the final two men standing.

When they tumbled out, referees argued fervently over which one had hit the floor first, with no definitive decision able to be made. As a result, both men received title shots at WrestleMania X - Luger losing his clash with then-champion Yokozuna via disqualification but Hart then beating the giant to claim the belt in the main event.

Kingston avoids elimination (2012-2016)

Kingston is the Harry Houdini of the Royal Rumble Match with his ability to extract himself from seemingly impossible situations. The high-flyer famously saved himself from elimination in 2012 when he walked on his hands after being thrown out, while, in 2013, he landed on Tensai's back and then used JBL's commentary chair to leap back into the ring.

It was a similar story in 2014 when Kingston landed on the barricade before jumping from it back into the match, and in 2015 when he was caught by Adam Rose's followers, The Rosebuds, while last year the Ghanaian used Big E's shoulders to remain in the contest. Kingston's feats though, have not yet earned him a Rumble win - could that change this time around?
