Kyle Edmund excited for clay season
Thursday 5 April 2018 18:52, UK
British No 1 Kyle Edmund is "100 per cent fit" and "excited" for the clay season following problems with injury and illness.
Edmund reached his first Grand Slam semi-final at the Australian Open in January, becoming only the sixth British man to make it to that stage of a Grand Slam.
However, Edmund struggled in Melbourne due to a hip injury and has failed to capitalise on such success having only played twice since.
Now he is fit and ready to get back to the highs reached earlier in the season, and will go into Wimbledon ranked as the British No 1 for the first time.
"I had a dream start to the season in Australia, playing some great tennis." Edmund told Sky Sports News.
"It's been a whirlwind since then, including sadly being hit by severe virus in February which carried into March.
"I'm, however, feeling 100 per cent fit now and ready for the change of surface.
"Clay is one of my favourite surfaces so I'm very excited to get back on it and to build on the first part of the year.
"I'm super motivated to get better and obviously have lots to work on over the coming months and years.
"It's going to be a long journey but I'm committed to put the time in to better my game."
Away from the courts, Edmund has been named a UK ambassador for sports car manufacturer, Jaguar, who are the Official Car to All England Lawn Tennis Club.
"I am very humbled to get this UK ambassadorial role with Jaguar and it will only motivate me more," Edmund added.
We'll be back for more tennis on Monday, April 16 for the start of the ATP Monte Carlo Rolex Masters with coverage underway from 9.30am on Sky Sports Arena.
