Lee Radford was proud of Hull's work ethic after they came from 12-0 down against the Vikings

Hull FC head coach Lee Radford was thrilled with the performance of hat-trick hero Tom Lineham in their come-from-behind victory at Widnes.

Lineham registered an impressive first-half double to put Hull on their way and finished Widnes off after the break.

The Vikings started strongly as the home side raced to a 12-0 lead through tries from youngsters Jack Owens and Matty Whitley, but Hull hit back in superb fashion.

"Tom (Lineham) is a unique individual and he knows where the try line is and he likes to keep me on the edge of my seat," said Radford.

"He was excellent tonight but so was Richard Whiting. He came in and did well.

"Tom's place was a bit in danger tonight after last week and we have healthy competition in that position but I stuck with him.

“It's good for me as a coach to have that competition in the team and it's good for the players as they are kept on their toes.

"Tom came into the game really late and his rugby league awareness is improving all the time. He's working tirelessly on his skill set and he's worked hard to fix that and you can see that in the way he finishes things off. His first try was outstanding and to deliver a sucker punch to Widnes at the time in the game was great for us.

Marc Sneyd pulled off some individual brilliance to get a try in their 25-12 victory over Widnes Vikings

"We've beaten a quality side here and we're very pleased. They are a very good side and we're happy this evening.

"We have to keep building our momentum after this win. Only one team has come here and won and they've been in some great form so to get the two points is big for us.

“They've got some very good players and we all know what Kevin Brown can do, so to control him and control Widnes like we did is what we needed to do (to get the win)."

Denis Betts was frustrated that his Widnes side could not make the most of their fast start.

"We got off to a great start and I think we just failed to capitalise on that," he said.

"We spoke about the short turn around that both sides had (from Magic Weekend) and we said that we wanted to have plenty of energy and go at them.

“We did that early on and we built some good field but we didn't put any more points on the board and we went sloppy and let them in."
