The long-absent Berkshire could return to action at Epsom on Monday.

Paul Cole's injury-plagued colt has been sidelined since he won the Darley Stakes at Newmarket last autumn, but is close to a return.

The Official Gatwick Parking Conditions Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Epsom is the preferred starting point, although Berkshire does have other options.

Should all go accordingly, the Royal Ascot-winning four-year-old would then head to Longchamp on Arc weekend in October.

Oliver Cole, the Whatcombe handler's son and assistant, said: "He's got an entry at Epsom on Monday but the horse has got to work well on Friday and we've got to be happy with him.

"He hasn't done anything wrong at home, though, and he seems to be back to where he was.

"If he does run at Epsom, he'll go there fit and well, but I would say he'll come on for the run as we haven't been overly hard on him at home.

"If he doesn't run at Epsom, there's also a Listed race at Ayr over a mile and a quarter (Doonside Cup) and one at Goodwood.

"He's got an entry in the Prix Dollar at Longchamp and I'd say that would be the long-term plan."
