Smart juvenile Recorder, owned by the Queen and trained by William Haggas, will miss the rest of the season.
A stylish winner of the Acomb Stakes at York, he was given quotes for the Guineas and the Derby after his victory.
Haggas had mentioned the National Stakes at the Curragh as an end-of-season target but that will now have to be shelved.
Speaking to www.ownerbreeder.co.uk Haggas said: "He had a setback after York and is off games with an injury for the rest of the season.
"However, I hope very much to have him back next year for the 2,000 Guineas and hopefully the Derby as well."
