Trainer Martyn Meade, based at Sefton Lodge in Newmarket, has recently finalised the purchase of Snailwell Stud.
Located just two miles outside the centre of Newmarket, Meade intends to return the historic stud to its former glories.
"I am delighted to have purchased a stud farm which has such deep breeding roots as Snailwell Stud," Meade said.
"We very much hope to return the stud to its former successful breeding days. The plan is to stand stallions as well as housing broodmares and their progeny."
Originally developed in 1910 by Thomas, 8th Baron Howard de Walden, the stud was then purchased some 30 years later by Mr Stanhope Joel. The Joel family were key players within the racing industry at that time, with Stanhope standing two of his Group 1 winning horses, Chamossaire and Busted, as stallions at Snailwell Stud.
Over the years the stud has built up a reputation as a renowned boarding and consigning stud.
During the breeding season the stud houses a number of visiting mares and their foals, whilst out of the stud season the stabling is used by box rested horses and travelling quarantine horses.
Estate Agents Windsor Clive International described the stud as "one of the best stud farms in the Newmarket area" and "a rarity in the market place."
