Davis Love III has revealed that assistant captain Tiger Woods has already decided on which four players the US captain should select for this year's Ryder Cup.
Love is delighted with the way his team is shaping up, and he received an added bonus when Jimmy Walker produced the best golf of his career to win his maiden major title at the PGA Championship.
Eight players will qualify for the contest at Hazeltine on merit, and Love will then unveil three captain's picks after the BMW Championship - the third of the four FexExCup Play-off events which concludes on September 11, and he will make his final choice after the Tour Championship a fortnight later.
But it appears that Woods already has his shortlist of wild-cards lined up, based on who he feels would benefit the team most both on and off the course and those who he would most like to manage.
Love believes the strength and experience of his current top eight allows him "more flexibility" with his picks, and he hinted that veterans Jim Furyk and Steve Stricker - both named as vice-captains - could be in line for a playing role if they perform well over the next month.
