Tiger Woods has dropped out of the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Woods, who hasn't played since he withdrew from the Farmers Insurance Open on February 6, falls to No 104 this week.

The last time he was out of the top 100 was as a 20-year-old in September 1996, when he was at No 225, but the following week he won the Las Vegas Invitational for the first of his 79 PGA Tour victories.

It is not clear when Woods will return to competition after saying in February that his scores were not acceptable and he would not play until his game was in tournament shape.

Woods is not required to announce if he is playing the Masters until the tournament starts April 9.

The 39-year-old posted an 82 at the Phoenix Open in January, his worst round as a professional, and since then the 14-times major winner has continued a downward slide that resulted in him failing to qualify for this month's WGC-Cadillac Championship, an event he has won seven times.

Woods first moved to world No 1 when he finished 19th at the 1997 US Open.
