Michael McGovern (ranked 7.38) has been a standout player among a side of Northern Ireland heroes. He made the most saves of any goalkeeper during the group stages, with 15 to his name. Eight of those stops came against Germany to ensure the World Cup holders found the net just once, the narrow defeat securing Northern Ireland's place in the next round due to superior goal difference compared to other third-placed sides.

Defenders

Wales' defence needed to be solid in order to reach the last 16 and James Chester (7.60) didn't disappoint, making an impressive eight tackles and 13 interceptions in the group stages.

Switzerland centre-back Fabian Schar (7.68) also makes the cut. He scored the winning goal in his side's first match of the tournament and made a string of key tackles and interceptions during Sunday's goalless draw with France.

Some solid defensive displays from Croatia's captain Darijo Srna (7.43) helped his side take top spot in Group D, ahead of defending champions Spain. Not only did the right-back perform impressively, but he managed to do so while coping with the passing of his father. Srna flew home for the funeral but played all three matches.

Northern Ireland's Jonny Evans (7.30) makes the selection after some robust displays and made history along the way; he and sibling Corry became the first brothers to play together for Northern Ireland at a major tournament.

Germany's Toni Kroos (8.02) has been dominant in midfield - especially against Northern Ireland when he distributed 111 passes with 92 per cent accuracy during the 1-0 victory.

Another Premier League player makes the cut in the form of Frenchman Dimitri Payet (8.21). The West Ham star has netted twice to help France reach the last 16 and lit up the tournament opener with his brilliant strike against Romania before scoring his second of the campaign against Albania.

Cristiano Ronaldo (7.50) became the first player to score at four European Championships when he found the back of the net in Wednesday's thriller with Hungary but his two-goal show has come too late to nudge him into the starting line-up.

Premier League playmakers Eden Hazard (7.63), David Silva (7.65) and Mesut Ozil (7.61) all score highly but must settle for a place on the bench.
