Mario Gomez has been ruled out of the remainder of Germany's Euro 2016 campaign due to a muscle tear.
The 30-year-old sustained a knock in Germany's quarter-final win over Italy on penalties and was substituted late on in normal time.
The German football federation says Gomez's participation in the semi-final on Thursday and a potential final is "out of the question."
Bastian Schweinsteiger and Sami Khedira are also both doubtful for the semi-final in Marseille with a knee injury and groin injury, respectively, while defender Mats Hummels is also out due to suspension.
The DFB says an MRI scan in Annecy on Sunday revealed Schweinsteiger had a ligament strain in his right knee after receiving an injury against Italy, while Khedira has a left adductor injury.
Germany head coach Joachim Low admitted the loss of Gomez and Hummels is difficult, but says his squad is capable of coping with their absences.
"It's very bitter when important players are ruled out in the decisive phase of a tournament," said Low.
"I am especially sorry for Mario. He put in some good performances at these Euros and has helped the team, not only with his goals.
"For us, it means we have to accept the new situation and find solutions, which we will do.
"The quality of the team is high and I have full trust in all the players -- we'll be ready on Thursday and we're looking forward to the semi-finals."
