Six people were arrested on a less volatile day in Lille on Thursday, French authorities have confirmed.

French authorities confirmed the arrests were made because of two "deplorable" incidents, one for throwing a smoke bomb at a police officer and the other for violence against a security guard.

Those arrested for the offences have been placed in custody.

The violence against the security guard took place in the Lille fan zone prior to England's Euro 2016 Group B match against Wales, where 10,000 supporters had gathered to watch the game.

The incident involving the smoke bomb being thrown at a police officer occurred in a street near to the fan zone.

There were 13 fans that required medical attention at the fan zone, but they were treated by paramedics on site.
