Diego Costa's Atletico Madrid move 'unlikely, not impossible' before Spanish transfer deadline
Friday 1 September 2017 23:49, UK
Diego Costa's chances of rejoining Atletico Madrid on Spain's Deadline Day have been described as "unlikely but not impossible" by Sky sources.
The Spanish transfer window remains open until midnight on Friday and negotiations have been ongoing between the clubs over the Spaniard's protracted and acrimonious exit from Stamford Bridge.
Atletico are banned from registering new players before January and have so far offered only half what Chelsea want for the striker, which has been £50m.
Atletico are also reluctant to pay Costa's £150,000 a week wages before he can play for them in January, and one option being actively pursued is to find a loan club for Costa to join until then.
A source close to the negotiations told Sky Sports News the chances of a last-minute deal being struck are becoming "improbable, but in football nothing is impossible".

Costa has been in self-enforced exile from the Blues since they won the Premier League title, and has made it clear he wants to rejoin Atletico after being told he was no longer wanted by Antonio Conte.
Costa, who has won two Premier League titles in three years since joining Chelsea from Atletico for £32m, is effectively on strike having refused to return to pre-season training in July.
